Kathryn B. Yatrakis joined the Barnard Political Science Department in 1977 where she taught courses in American Politics, Urban Administration and Management, Urban Politics, Women and Politics and directed the Columbia-Barnard Urban Studies Program. In 1989 she became Associate Dean of Columbia College and over the years has been involved in the continued growth and enhancement of the Urban Studies Program.  She teaches the Urban Studies Junior Seminar: Contemporary Urban Issues and advises Columbia College Urban Studies majors.  
In addition to being the Dean of Academic Affairs in Columbia College, Dean Yatrakis was also a Senior Associate Vice President in the Arts and Sciences.  Her office was responsible for the Columbia College curriculum, specifically administering the Core Curriculum, and she served as the academic liaison between the College and the Arts and Sciences.
Dean Yatrakis has served on a number of boards and committees including Academy of Political Science, Colony-South Brooklyn Houses Board of Directors; Packer Collegiate Institute Board of Trustees; Prospect Park Alliance Board of Directors; College Board-Academic Assembly Council; US Soccer Federation-Diversity Task Force; Hellenic American Cultural Foundation. She has written on “Electoral Demands and Political Benefits,” “Ballots and Bosses in Brooklyn,” and co-edited a special edition of Women and the American City.
